Hazel T. Kump
Hazel Turner Kump, 87, a former resident of 41 High St., Elkins, and for the past 1 1/2 years a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Thursday evening, March 14, 2002, at the center.
She was born July 8, 1914, at La Grange, Ga., a daughter of the late William Henry Turner and Hazel Vorus Turner.
On Sept. 6, 1933, at La Grange, Ga., she was married to Cyrus Scott Kump, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1964.
Surviving are six children, Hazel Kump Burford, Elkins, William Turner Kump and wife, Agnes, Newport News, Va., Ann Kump Finley and husband, George, Ocala, Fla., Meredith Kump Beaver and husband, Daniel, East Berlin, Pa., Herman Guy Kump II and wife, Anita, Steffisburg, Switzerland, and Cyrus Kerr Kump and wife, Susan, Elkins; one sister, Meredith Turner Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Mary Gamble Kump and June Kump.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Turner Smith; and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Kump attended the schools of La Grange, Ga., and Agnes Scott College at Atlanta, Ga. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of John Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Woman's Club of Elkins, the American Association of University Women, the Davis & Elkins College Aid, the Phi Mu Fraternity and the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Dr. Lacy Bible Class and Circle No 2.
She had served as president of the women of the church from 1956 to 1958 and in 1958, was awarded life membership in the women of the church. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels and was an avid bridge player and reader.
Friends will be received at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. On Tuesday, Mrs. Kump will be moved to Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, where final rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Falter will officiate and interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library, 416 Davis Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241 or to Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 South Randolph Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
