Myron Vance Midgett, Sr., 91, of 1095 Horseshoe Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Wednesday evening in the Winslow's Memorial Home.

He was born in Dare County, NC to the late Graves Midgett, Sr. and Palmyra Payne Midgett and was the husband of Beulah Helen O'Neal Midgett.

Mr. Midgett was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the U. S. Coast Guard, having served our country for 20 years. Later in life, Mr. Midgett worked and retired as a mechanic for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Chief Petty Officers Association.

Besides his wife, Mr. Midgett is survived by four daughters, Freida Styron of Chesapeake, VA, Janet Vallee of Virginia Beach, VA, Anna DeHart of Murfreesboro, TN and Helen Carol Shannon of Elizabeth City, NC; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Midgett of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister, Mae Fulcher of Salvo, NC, one brother Melvin Midgett of Wilmington, NC; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Myron Vance Midgett, Jr., two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 2:00pm in the Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church St., by Rev. William C. Holmes. Burial with military honors will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 and at other times at their residence, 1095 Horseshoe Road, Elizabeth City. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Midgett family.
