Husband of Eliza Jane (McKay) McVay (1854-1920). Son of Christopher Columbus McVay and Catherine (West) McVay. Elkana was the father of eleven children with Eliza: Lou Wilbur, Ida Olive, Maletha, Keziah, James Leroy, Emma Jane "Minnie," Benson West, Christopher Columbus, William Estus, Lena and Earl McVey.

(Please note: This family usually used the spelling of McVey for their last name, however, Elkana's father and grandfather and many other ancestors used the spelling of McVay for the last name. Also, Elkana's first name was also written as "Elkanah.")
