Funeral services for James P. Ossman, better known among friends and associates as "Muggs," was held from St. Joseph Church o Monday, June 4, with Fr. George M. Spehar officiating. Rosary services were held on Sun. evening, June 3 at 7 p.m.
He was assisted by St. Joseph Choir with Alberta Brower at the organ.
Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery with John M. Moore; Chris Kastrinos, Ed Lutz, James Lane, Rudy Shober and William King serving as pallbearers.
James Ossman was born in Leadville Feb. 15, 1923, the son of Mary Ellen Hayden and Michael J. Ossman. He was the last remaining member of a family of several brothers and sisters.
During World War 11 he served in the armed services from May 21, 1943 to Jan. 20, 1946.
For the past 28 years he has been an employee of the Lake County road and bridge department.
His hobby and special interest was the raising, training and breaking of horses.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and also the Eagles.
His death occurred suddenly and unexpectedly on May 30 at the age of 56.
Survivors are nieces and nephews: Barbara Saenz of Corpus Christi, Texas; Ruth Dunbar of Syracuse, New York; Iris Potter of Canon City; Joseph Sheffield of Denver; Linda Martin, Cora Lou Byrne, Carolyn Byrne, and Robert Ossman of Leadville. A special friend, Marge Hagan, of Tucson, Arizona is also a survivor. (Leadville Herald Democrat - June 15, 1979)
