YAKIMA - Marie Mutch, 92, faithful wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, having been in excellent health all of her life, entered into her eternal rest and reward at her home on May 29, 2011 in Yakima, WA.

Marie was born in Hartley, Iowa on June 16, 1918 to John and Anna Ritchie. Her mother Anna, immigrated to America by ship from Norway as a young woman. Marie was educated in a one-room school house and raised on the family farm in Madelia, MN where she developed great strength and tenacity from working with the hay harvest and milking cows for her parents. She loved the farm and countryside and even met her future husband, Lex on the family farm, who would arrive on his Indian motorcycle to date Marie. Marie and her sister, Esther married the Mutch brothers. Marie and Lex married on August 17, 1940 and eventually moved to the Yakima Valley where they raised a family of 3 daughters and lived in the same house since Christmas of 1948. Marie was a wonderful home canner of many Yakima Valley fruits and vegetables and canned up to 500 quarts each summer. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family especially at holidays. She was incredibly thrifty, hard working and loved a project. Marie and Lex were married for 64 years.

Marie is survived by her three daughters, Anne Kovacs of Richardson, TX; Alice Curtis (Gale) of Yakima, WA; and Nancy Dunn of Ellensburg, WA. She is also remembered and loved by her four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Lex in 2004, her parents, John and Anna Ritchie, and her sister, Esther.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Bob and Brenda Bishop for their kindness during this time and also to Dr. Toliver for his wonderful care and sense of humor in working with Marie.

Those wishing to honor Marie may make memorials in her name to the Apostolic Faith Church and the Union Gospel Mission.

There will be viewing Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Keith & Keith Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
