STRAWBERRY ˜ Shelby Ray Cooper, 98, of Strawberry, formerly of St. Louis, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in a Cave City nursing home.

Born Aug. 26, 1913, at Calamine, he was the son of Walter and Piety Warnick Cooper. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a factory worker and an avid reader. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, Mark Cooper of Strawberry; four nephews, Anderson Erwin Jr. and Vernon Erwin, both of Arkansas, James Cooper of Tennessee and Jerry Walker of Missouri; and two nieces, Norma Finn of Arkansas and Linda Willis of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dula Louise Watson Cooper; three brothers, Floyd Cooper, Eulas Cooper and Don Cooper; and two sisters, Mae Walker and Hattie Erwin.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry with Kennard Ward officiating. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

No visitation is planned.
