James (Jim) Lenard Middleton, 86, of Palestine, was born July 26, 1924 in Howe, Texas, the son of the late Jack and Katie Middleton. He passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 in a Palestine hospital.

Jim served in the Pacific during World War II in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic. He was employed by Pioneer Airlines, Continental Airlines and worked for TWA. He retired after forty years of Civil Service working at Amarillo AFB and Sheppard AFB, Texas. He was a resident of Wichita Falls, Texas from 1968-2008 when he relocated to Palestine, Texas.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, George G. and Barbara Holt of Amarillo; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon K. and Nick Mathis of Palestine; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Scott and Pam Middleton; grandchildren, Christina Sullivan, Ben Carroll and wife Iona, Brad Carroll and wife Courtney, Amy Miller and husband Cody, Michael Mathis and wife Amanda, Stephen Mathis, Allison Mathis, Jordan Anderson and husband Mark, Jillian Middleton and Catlin Middleton; great-grandchildren, Maelie, Caedmon, Emily, Sam, Caithness, Caden, Nora and Aberdeen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Horace Fletcher of Lufkin, Betty and James Burke of Henderson and Marjorie and Larry Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews to whom he is known as Uncle Lenard or Uncle Jim.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife Faye; brother, Horace; daughter, Dana Cheryl; and sisters, Helen Marie, Mrs. Winfred (Lanora) Havard and Mrs. Hogue (Hazel) Forrest.

Pallbearers will be Brad Carroll, Stephen Mathis, Cody Miller, Mark Anderson, George Holt and Scott Middleton. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Mathis and Ben Carroll.

Services for Jim will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
