She was born on July 31, 1931, in Limestone Township to Carl B. and Eliza Maddox Johnson.
She is survived by two sons, Louis (Linda) Wagner of Easton and Roy (Karen) Wagner of Mason City; and one daughter, Janica (Mike) Drainer of Canton. Also surviving are one sister, Margaret Steiling of Atlanta, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Viola Wagner and Evelyn Schoonover; and six grandchildren, Michele (Tom) Murphy of Canton, Donald (Jennifer Doss) Damm of Mason City, Nicole (Travis) Rose of Easton, Chris Drainer of Canton, Chad (Katie) Wagner of Springfield and Josh (Wendy) Wagner of Mason City. Elsie also has 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, George Wagner on Feb. 17, 1951, and George Hoelzel on Sept. 29, 2002; one great-grandchild, Bryant Wagner; one brother, Benjamin Johnson; and four sisters, Catherine Campen, Clara Meischner, Ann Bleichner and Elizabeth Englebrect.
Elsie worked for Knoles Gardens in Mason City for 17 years.
She was a member of the South Pekin Congregational Church.
Burial will be at Green Valley Cemetery.
