"DEATH OF ROBERT GILBERT.
Robert Gilbert, a resident of Jefferson County since 1847 and a most excellent man, died at his home three miles southeast of this city Friday afternoon. He had been ill with inflammation of the stomach for about a week. Mr. Gilbert was born in County Antrim, Ireland, April 8th, 1820, and was the eldest of five sons, all the others of whom are living. He was married in 1858 to M. A. Wilson, who with two children, a son and a daughter, survive him. Mr. Gilbert was a man of excellent habits, honest and just in his dealings with men, modest and retiring in his disposition. The funeral occurred Sunday, being conducted by Rev. I. H. Gorrell, and largely attended. The remains were interred in the Pattison cemetery south of town."
