A Virginia native, he had been a Muncie area resident since childhood and had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Sheller, Royerton Heights, R.R.1, Muncie, for the past several years. He was a former mortician, farmer, and employee of Wallar's Market prior to opening his own grocery store.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of the First Brethren Church and Muncie Lodge 433.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Sheller are another daughter, Mrs. Arlene Anderson, Warren; a son, Dr. George W. Bowman, a Wilmington College professor in Wilmington, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Meeks Mortuary with Rev. Glenn Grumbling, First Brethren Church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Eaton. Friends may call at the mortuary any time after 2 p.m. Thursday. Muncie Lodge 433 will hold memorial services Thursday at 8 p.m.
