Elsie was the next to youngest of the seven children of Louis Napoleon Robertson and Ida B. Vanover Robertson. She died of complications of the Spanish flu, leaving behind her husband and infant son as well as her parents and siblings. Sadly her young son died just a few years later, reportedly of diphtheria.

Just over a month after Elsie's death, her brother Gilbert lost his two young children within a week of each other. It's impossible to be certain that they too succumbed to the Spanish flu but the speed with which they took ill and died, and the timing, is suggestive.
