Laura Martha (Kuhlmann) Bertram was born January 18, 1883, in the Village of Rogers City, Michigan. She was the first of thirteen children born to Max and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Flemming) Kuhlmann.

Her parents brough her at an early age to St John Lutheran church for the Sacrament of Baptism. Fourteen years later, on Aril 25, 1897, she confirmed her baptismal vows at St John's, The same pastor, the Rev Joel D Druckenmiller, that had baptized her also instructed her in the Catechism and confessional teachings of the Lutheran Church and Confirmed her.

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census show Laura at the age of 17 Years, as single and the oldest of eight siblings still living at home. Her occupation is listed as being a Public School Teacher.

On February 25, 1908, at the age of 25 she was united in marriage with Mr.

She was united in marriage with Adelbert Paul Bertram on February 25th, 1908, at St John Lutheran Church in Rogers City by the Rev Joel D Druckenmiller, the same pastor that baptized and confirmed both Adelbert and Laura.

A child was born to them but did not survived infancy. The A.P. and Laura moved for a short time to Cleveland, Ohio, where A.P. was engaged in lumber yard business, a business with which he was well acquainted having been in the lumbering and saw mill business from an early age with his father.

They returned to Rogers City about 1911 and made their home on Third Street for several years. Here Laura became mother to four more healthy children, three daughters, Laura, born 1911; Helen, born 1914; Adelbert, Jr. born 1916; and Dorothy, born 1921.

Mrs. Bertram passed away in November of 1958, after a long illness. She received a Christian funeral at St John Lutheran Church, the Rev Louis A Linn, officiating.

Her mortal remains were laid to rest next to her infant child in Memorial Park Cemetery.
