Married Sarah Smith, daughter of Nuby and Lydia Smith, 21 Sept 1856 in Jefferson County, Iowa, Cedar Township. At eighteen years he started out on his own and made his way to Iowa. He arrived in Jefferson County December 1855 and although only a boy he was engaged as teacher of a school in Cedar Township for $20 a month. The next summer he attended school and through the following twelve years he devoted his energy to farming in the summer and teaching in the winter.

August 11, 1862 Mr King volunteered for the Union army and joined Company G 30th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Rank in second corporal rank out Corporal. He joined with Henry Clay Smith and Thomas S. Smith. Discharged 1863 for disability; Bronchits. On pension list $8 a month.

He was a successful businessman in Fairfield Iowa. In 1872 he moved there and started a grocery business with his partner James F. Crawford. The partership lasted a year and a half when Mr. King sold out. He then formed a partership with R. F. McCashlin which lasted three years. He was alone for a time, then his grocery business was named "Allan King & Brother". Brother was Perry King who arrived in Iowa about 1880. In 1888 the partnership was desolved. March 22 1890 the store burned and he lost $1,100. In 1891 moved to Denver, Colorado.

Mr King married Mrs Mary (Shamp) Davis June 8, 1882 who was born in Wayne County Ohio to Moses C. and Mary L. (Richard) Shamp. Her father, a native of Pennsylvania born 2 March 1801, was of German descent and her mother of Irish descent was born in the same state 9 July 1805. They came to Jefferson County in 1846.

Allen King died at Denver, Col., September 28th and was brought to Fairfield for burial. Mr. King was 74 years of age and came to Iowa in 1859. Mr. King served in the 30th Iowa and was County Recorder one term. About twenty years ago he moved to Denver.
