Obituary in The Bienville Democrat November 17, 1977:

Mrs. Annie Lou Holstun Jones, age 88, of the Arcadia Baptist Home died Monday, November 7, 1977 at the Bienville General Hospital. Services were held Tuesday, November 8, at the Conger Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Gibsland Cemetery. Rev. M.F. Copeland and Rev. W.H. Connor officiated. Pallbearers were Douglas Stewart, Tate Love, Victor Fleming, R.L. Kidd, James Cottle, Joe Colvin, Holstein Fleming, and J.M. Lamkin. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Fleming and Milton Courtney.

Annie Lou, a descendant of pioneer settlers of Bienville Parish, was the daughter of the late J.D. and Lou Courtney Holstun. Their home, located on the Holstun Plantation, was one of the oldest antebellum homes in Bienville Parish. It was acquired in 1854. Mrs. Jones attended Mt. Lebanon College where her grandfather, Dr. Frank Courtney was Doctor of Divinity and Medicine for eighteen years. She received her degree from Louisiana Tech. Her first teaching position was at Black Lake School, located four miles west of Arcadia.

It was not uncommon to see her on horseback accompanied by her infant son going to and from work. Her teaching career also included jobs at Gibsland, Ringgold, Taylor, and Longstreet schools. Mrs. Jones was married to the late Malvin S. Jones Sr. They settled on a farm between Gibsland and Arcadia which was part of the old plantation. "Sister," as many family members called her, began raising flowers as a hobby at this location. Sister's Bulb Farm developed from this hobby and eventually became a profitable business. The farm continues to flourish with her grandchildren in charge. Annie Lou's fame as a gardener will not soon be forgotten. Flower lovers far and wide come by the hundreds in the spring to admire her beautiful flowers.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three children, M. Sam Jones Jr. of Minden, Grover A. Jones of Gibsland, and Mrs. W.W. (Anne) Sisson of Berkeley California; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
