Obituary in The Bienville Democrat July 6, 1944:

J.D. Holstun III Killed in Action Over France
A message has been received by Mrs. Ella Holstun from the War Department, advising her of the death of her son, J.D. Holstun III, age 27 years, killed in action over France on June 6, the first day of the invasion. Holstun, a paratrooper with the 506th Paratroop Regiment, son of Mrs. Ella Holstun and the late J.D. Holstun Jr., was born and reared in Gibsland, graduated from the Gibsland High School, attended La. Tech and received his degree from LSU. He had been in service a little more than one year, and overseas several months.

He is survived by his mother and one sister, Mrs. Raymond Benson, both of whom now reside in New Orleans, and a number of other relatives in North Louisiana. Mrs. H.R. Sledge is an aunt of the deceased.

Note: First Lt. James Drayton Holstun III is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery in Basse-Normandie, France. [See Find A Grave Memorial# 56645720]
