Many hearts were saddened with a cloud of sorrow when the news reached us from West Point, Miss., on the 31st of January, relling us that Jim Wiley was dead. It came as a surprise to so many and a shock to his family, as he died suddenly with heart disease.
He was born near Bethel Hill, NC, Person County in 1852, and was therefore in his 62 year, he was the son of John Wiley who preceeded him to the better land five years ago this coming June. He married Ida Beavers, the daughter of Jim and Carrie Beaver and left this country something like 10 years ago, going to West Point, Miss., where he made home until the time of his death, never coming back to his old country but twice. He leaves beside wife and children, one sister and 4 brothers, all of Person county excepting one brother Larkin Wiley, who lives Brunswick County, Va.
He never joined any church as to my knowledge but was of Baptist faith and was a good, kind husband and father. His loss will fall heavily upon those who come under the influence of his strong character, and will cause a feeling of deep personal bereavement to both relatives and friends.
