Veda B. Barnard, 87, a longtime antique merchant and lifelong resident of Abilene and the area, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at an Abilene medical center.

The daughter of Angie Bird (Canon) and Walter E. Bradley, Veda was born on July 2, 1918, in Stith, Texas in Jones County, and graduated from Merkel High School. After her marriage to Boyce T. Barnard on September 22, 1939, in Cisco, the couple lived in Abilene all of their married lives. Mrs. Barnard owned Barnard's Antiques, the store she loved with a passion. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Abilene Chamber of Commerce and Abilene Downtown Association.

Her husband, parents, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons and their spouses, Jack and Debbie Barnard of Fort Worth, Joe and Lavonda Barnard of Austin, and Jim and Louise Barnard of Abilene; grandchildren, John and Lacy Barnard of Austin, Brandi Hardee and Amy Barnard of Austin, Jennifer Huskin and Benjamin Barnard of Abilene; great-grandchildren, Daniel Barnard and Anique Hardee of Austin, and Reagan Huskin of Abilene; and a sister-in-law, Inez Bradley of Merkel.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Clyde City Cemetery with Rev. Darris Egger officiating, directed by Elliott- Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
