Served in the Tennessee House of Representatives, 1849-51, in the 28th General Assembly, representing Meigs And Rhea counties. He was a Democrat. He was a constable of the 5th Civil district of Meigs county in 1836 but resigned in 1839. He was a deputy sheriff of Meigs county, 1840-41 and deputy and tax collector in 1845.

His body was originally intered at Hardwick Cemetery in Meigs County, TN but was moved to Baker Cemetery when the TVA buuilt Watts Bar Dam and created the Watts Bar Lake.
