On March 28, 1952, he married Helen Mae Clark, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. She passed away on August 11, 1991. On January 3, 1992, he was married and sealed to Aleta Moore in the Ogden Temple. They spent 19 years together.
Mel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served faithfully in many callings, including Scout Leader, several Bishoprics, Bishop of the Sunset 2nd Ward, High Councilman, High Priest Group Leader, and Sports Director of the North Davis Stake.
He was also involved in his community, serving on the Sunset City Council, Sunset Fire Department, Sunset Public Works Department, and retiring as the Clinton City Public Works Director.
Mel enjoyed sports, boating, horses, gardening, camping, fishing, but most of all his family. He was a great provider for his family. He was service oriented, loved people, and would give the shirt off his back to help others. He always had a smile on his face and exhibited Christlike love. He loved and lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
Mel is survived by his wife, Aleta, and children; Teri (Jerry) Chatterton, West Point, Vicki (Dan) Cook, Twin Falls, Idaho, Debra (Dan) VonAlmen, Sunset, Lori (Tom) Stevens, O'Fallon, Illinois, Michael Wood, Salt Lake City, Jerry Wood, Sunset, and stepchildren; Shawn (Kim) Moore, and Heather K. Moore, both of Sunset, 15 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen, parents, two brothers, and his grandson, Jeremy.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at the Sunset Utah Stake Center 975 North 250 West, Sunset, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Huntsman Cancer Center.
Interment in the Clinton Cemetery.
