MelVern H. Wood, loving Patriarch of our family, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at the age of 77. He was born January 25, 1934, in Auburn, Wyoming, the son of Jesse and Elvon Hurd Wood. He was raised in Auburn, and later lived in Ogden, and Sunset. He graduated from Star Valley High School, and attended Butcher Trade School at Weber State College. He then went on to work at Swift and Company in Ogden.

On March 28, 1952, he married Helen Mae Clark, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. She passed away on August 11, 1991. On January 3, 1992, he was married and sealed to Aleta Moore in the Ogden Temple. They spent 19 years together.

Mel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served faithfully in many callings, including Scout Leader, several Bishoprics, Bishop of the Sunset 2nd Ward, High Councilman, High Priest Group Leader, and Sports Director of the North Davis Stake.

He was also involved in his community, serving on the Sunset City Council, Sunset Fire Department, Sunset Public Works Department, and retiring as the Clinton City Public Works Director.

Mel enjoyed sports, boating, horses, gardening, camping, fishing, but most of all his family. He was a great provider for his family. He was service oriented, loved people, and would give the shirt off his back to help others. He always had a smile on his face and exhibited Christlike love. He loved and lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
