+Roma Blair, 83, of St. Ignace, the former owner of the Blair Motel on Pte. LaBarbe, died Wednesday, August 12, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petorkey following a short illness. He twin sister, Noma, died June 29, 2003 in Manistique, leaving Roma Blair the sole survivor of seven siblings.

She was born in Manistique on June 22, 1920 to David and Genevieve (nee Anderson) Brock, and attended school there.

Following graduation, she married Vern Blair on November 5, 1938. The couple lived in Detroit for a short time, then moved to St. Ignace in 1954 where Mr. Blair worked on the Mackinac Bridge. He passed away in 1994.

The couple owned and operated the Blair Motel for 40 years and Mrs. Blair also worked for JFB Manufacturing in St. Ignace, Mackinac Straits Hospital, the St. Ignace Laundromat, and the Souvenir Barn. She assisted at the Touch of Craft shop for many summers.

Mrs. Blair enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons and their families, Robert and Brenda Blair and Ed and Mariam Blair of St. Ignace; three daughters and their families, Betty and Wayne Bell of Gobles, Elaine and Sonny Andrews of Traverse City, and Beverley and Teeny Fraser of St. Ignace; 16 Grandchildren, and 17 Great-Grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Noma, who died June 29, 2003, three other sisters, Lillian Schnurer, Hazel Bowers, and Roxie Klarich, and three brothers, Gordon Brock, Golden Brock, and Harley Brock.

Services were Thursday, August 14 at 7pm at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace with Deacon Donald Olmstead officiating. Burial was in the Gros Cap Cemetery.
