Bertha Merchant Waggener, 93, passed away on June 20, 2010, at Garden Valley Manor Nursing Center, 8575 N. Granby Ave., Kansas City, MO where she had lived since March 2006.
She was born on October 19, 1916, in Mansfield, WA to John B. and Lena (Lee) Merchant. She married Harvey O. Waggener on October 12, 1935, in Chelan, WA where they lived until they moved to Seattle in 1942. They moved to the Yakima Valley in 1947 where they had a dairy farm in Zillah and later an orchard on Buena Heights. They moved to Toppenish in 1960, where she resided until moving to Kansas City, MO in 2003 to Garden Village Retirement Community to be near her daughter.
She was predeceased by her husband Harvey in 1997 and in 2007 by her son, Harvey L. "Bud" Waggener. One of thirteen children, Bertha is survived by a brother Robert Merchant of Crestview, FL; daughter Shirley (Walt) Pugsley of Lake Waukomis, MO; son Richard "Dick" (Susie) Waggener of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren Scott (Debie) and Ken (Sindie) Pugsley; April (Mike) Sauve; Mac (Priscilla), Ken (Gina), Marz, Tim, Hannah, Becky and David Waggener; Naomi (Jody) Rice; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 26 2010 from 12-2pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, Washington with the Service at 2pm. Interment will follow in the Zillah City Cemetery.
