BETTENDORF — Mary T. Moeller, 69, of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating Mary's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1216 W. 8th St., Davenport. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park.
Mary was born on Dec. 23, 1941, in Davenport, the daughter of John M. and Beulah (Wilcox) Marti of Long Grove, Iowa.
Mary was an extraordinary lady, with a loving and giving soul, whose hobbies and interests included volunteer work, interior decorating, collecting antiques, music, movies and sharing time with friends.
After being honored as the first Homecoming Queen at North Scott High School in 1959 and graduating from North Scott High School in 1960, Mary attended Augustana College for psychology and St. Ambrose University for nursing. Following school, she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Lynn Moeller, on Aug. 28, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. He passed away on April 10, 2004.
After marrying Lynn, Mary worked in banking in Iowa City for three years. Mary and Lynn started a family in 1967, and began to move across the country as Lynn's highly successful accounting career prompted multiple promotions. After living in Chicago (1967-1971), South Bend, Ind. (1971-1976), and Arlington, Texas (1976-1990), Mary and Lynn returned home to the Quad-Cities in 1990.
Sadly, extremely poor health continually plagued Mary's life since 1968. Besides being afflicted with severe Lupus that attacked every system and uncontrollable diabetes, Mary had more than a dozen autoimmune, bone, circulatory, digestive, heart, joint and lung diseases.
Although Mary endured more than 110 surgeries and was nearly blind, her enduring legacy is not her numerous illnesses, it is the courageous way she repeatedly overcame these many health hurdles with unparalleled determination.
An inspiration to everyone who knew her, Mary always focused on helping others. In addition to serving as a greeter and teller at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, she also started prayer chains for youth in the area.
Mary actively participated in several charitable causes. Her two favorite were Coats for Kids and purchasing school supplies for underprivileged children.
Those left to honor Mary's memory and continue her loving legacy include her son and No. 1 fan, Stephen Moeller, Bettendorf; son, Michael Moeller, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Morey-Moeller, Bensalem, Pa.; brother, Gary Marti, and sister-in-law, Jean Marti, Bettendorf; and her aunt, Pearl Wilcox, Eldridge, Iowa.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn, daughter, Melissa, parents, sister, Carole Marti, and brothers, John Marti and Chris Marti. May they rest in peace.
