Gary E. Marti was born on August 24, 1938 in Davenport, the son of John and Beulah (Wilcox) Marti. He grew up in the Long Grove area, and graduated from DeWitt High School in 1956. Gary was united in marriage to Jean E. Jensen on August 11, 1962 at Grace Lutheran Church, Davenport. They shared 52 years of marriage together. Gary had been a Federal Officer with the Internal Revenue Service assigned to the Des Moines District office. He later worked for the Department of the Army and the U.S. Small Business Administration as a Commercial Loan Officer in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids District offices. He retired in October of 1999.
Gary enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hiking at Scott County Park with family, bike riding, or taking trips with Jean. In the Fall they would take “Leafing Trips” to Galena, IL and McGregor, IA to take advantage of the beautiful Fall foliage. He is survived by a Son: David Marti of Pleasant Hill, IA; Daughters: Laura (Dave) Chester of Davenport, Sara (Robert) Brewer of East Moline, IL; Granddaughter: Carolyn Chester; and three Step-Grandchildren: Robert Brewer Jr., Jeffery Brewer, and Mindy Brewer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; and infant son, Craig Marti; brothers, John and Chris Marti; and sisters, Carol Marti and Mary (Lynn) Moeller. May they rest in peace.
