Floyda Mabel Steiner McClure (1878-1948), Devoted to Family

Floyda Mabel Steiner, born on March 20, 1878 in Wyandot County, Ohio was the youngest of nine children born to Edward George Steiner (1830-1880) and Elizabeth Jane Rinehart (1834-1905). In 1898, at the age of 20, Floyda married farmer Aaron Franklin Gottfried in Wyandot county. In an unusual move for a married woman of that time and place, she sought a divorce barely three years later, saying her husband was abusive. She was granted a divorce and a cash settlement in April, 1901.

She married machinist Brice Larimer McClure (1878-1970) on June 10, 1903 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Floyda and Brice moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where their only child was born (Marian Jane McClure, 1909-1983). Floyda was devoted to her siblings, her husband and daughter, and their three grandchildren. She loved sewing, embroidery, and crochet.

After her husband retired following World War II, they moved back to Upper Sandusky, Ohio, living close to her sisters. Floyda died of cancer on November 2, 1948 and is buried in Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio.
