Minnie Estella Steiner was born in 1867, the seventh child of Edward Steiner and Elizabeth Rinehart. On 13 March 1886, at the age of 18, she married Edward Nicholas Halbedel (1865-1946) in Wyandot county, Ohio. (Edward's older brother Frank Halbedel was a noted self-taught painter in his off hours when not earning money as a carriage trimmer.)

After marrying, she moved with her husband to the state capitol of Columbus, Ohio, for his work in government. Minnie and Frank had no children together. In retirement, they moved back to Upper Sandusky, Ohio, where the Steiner family had long lived. Edward died on 16 May 1946 in Upper Sandusky, and Minnie died the following 3 January 1947 after an illness that kept her bedridden for months.
