Irene was born on August 14, 1916 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Philander and Lucy (Brewer) Ross-Williams both of whom are deceased. She married Cletus Book on August 18, 1934 at Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and he died on April 19, 1981.
Surviving Irene are three daughters, Pat (Cal) Bardon of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Elaine (Jon) Grundtisch of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Ginnie (Bobby) Everhart of Sun City Arizona; Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lori Byrd, Jane Smalley, Deb Amos, Kyle Grundtisch, Mike Everhart, and Angie Everhart; and six great grandchildren, Jordan Byrd, Micah Byrd, Breanna Byrd, Jaime Amos, Jodi Smalley, and Mara Smalley; Irene has two half brothers, Harold Ross of Galion, Ohio, and Carl Ross of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
Irene was preceded in death by two sisters, Ilene Ross (her twin), and Rhea Nelson; four half brothers, Clarence Ross, Floyd Ross, Lloyd Ross, Paul Ross; two half sisters, Iola Ross, and Geraldine Keener.
She was a homemaker and worked for Handy Twine Knife Company in Upper Sandusky for over 30 years. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild. Mrs. Book enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, sitting on her front porch, birthday and holiday celebrations with her family and going out to eat with family and friends.
Funeral services for Irene will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with the Rev. Brad McKibben and Rev. Mary Curtis officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Friends may call from 6pm - 9pm on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to: Trinity United Church of Christ Endowment Fund or the Upper Sandusky Community Library. Memorials may be sent in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
