Frank Copeland and Miss Fannie A. Thomas were married Wednesday evening at the home of Harry Schrock at 908 South Seventeenth Street, the ceremony which made them man and wife being performed by Rev. J. B. Hofney at 9:45 o'clock.

Mr. Copeland is assistant chief of the Mattoon fire department and is well known in this city. His bride has resided here for the past four years and has won many friends.

The newly married couple will reside at 1813 Lafayette Avenue, where they will commence housekeeping at once."

"In July 1944, the local AWM was formed, with Mrs. Reed as its first president. She served in that office for a year and a half. Her successor was Mrs. Fannie Copeland.

After Mrs. Copeland served one year. Mrs. Reed was again elected and served another year as president of the local organization, retiring because of ill health."

"Trilla Mother, Children Walked Here to See Train

Mrs. F. M. Copeland, 513 North Thirty-second Street, today cited interest of pioneers in the first train to reach Mattoon by telling of an experience of her grandmother.

The grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Thomas Fickes, mother of the late J. M. Bresee of Mattoon, lived southeast of Trilla. The day the first train was to arrive in Mattoon she walked from home to the railroad, carrying one small child and leading another by the hand.

"When the walking child reached the settlement here he was so tired he slept 24 hours" Mrs. Copeland said she was told."

She was born Nov. 11, 1882, in Trilla, the daughter of Dora and Millie Sarah Simons Thomas. She married Frank M. Copeland, June 3, 1903, in Mattoon. He died April 23, 1951, in Mattoon.

She is survived by three sons, Rodney L. of Mattoon, Richard T. of Route 1 and Kenneth F. of Huntsville, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. George K. (Effie) Gamble of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Sarah Reid of Mattoon; a brother, Clark A. Thomas of Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Claudia McClain of Portland, Ore.; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Ora Belle, died at birth.

Mrs. Copeland was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, the Lincoln Parents Association and the James Reed Chapter of American War Mothers."

Mr. Copeland is assistant chief of the Mattoon fire department and is well known in this city. His bride has resided here for the past four years and has won many friends.

"Trilla Mother, Children Walked Here to See Train

Mrs. F. M. Copeland, 513 North Thirty-second Street, today cited interest of pioneers in the first train to reach Mattoon by telling of an experience of her grandmother.

The grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Thomas Fickes, mother of the late J. M. Bresee of Mattoon, lived southeast of Trilla. The day the first train was to arrive in Mattoon she walked from home to the railroad, carrying one small child and leading another by the hand.

"When the walking child reached the settlement here he was so tired he slept 24 hours" Mrs. Copeland said she was told."

"MRS. FANNIE COPELAND

Mrs. Fannie Adeline Copeland, 87, of 513 N. 32nd died at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Dr. Clifford C. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 11, 1882, in Trilla, the daughter of Dora and Millie Sarah Simons Thomas. She married Frank M. Copeland, June 3, 1903, in Mattoon. He died April 23, 1951, in Mattoon.

She is survived by three sons, Rodney L. of Mattoon, Richard T. of Route 1 and Kenneth F. of Huntsville, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. George K. (Effie) Gamble of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Sarah Reid of Mattoon; a brother, Clark A. Thomas of Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Claudia McClain of Portland, Ore.; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Ora Belle, died at birth.

Mrs. Copeland was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, the Lincoln Parents Association and the James Reed Chapter of American War Mothers."

Mrs. Richard Reid sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Abide With Me." She was accompanied by Mrs. Florence Myers, organist.

Memorial services were conducted by the James Reed Chapter of American War Mothers at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Participants included Mrs. Earl Gillespie, president; Mrs. Ernest Evermon, vice president; Mrs. Harold Newland, chaplain; Mrs. Ethel McCoy, mother's poem; and Mrs. Letha Willbaum, eulogy.
