Nancy C. Burkett. daughter of Benton and Rebecca Burkett, was born July 30, 1817, On October 31, 1867, she was united in marriage to Joseph A Thomas, to which union three children were born: Alva, Ottis and Zoe. The latter preceded
her to the glorious beyond, Nov. 2, 1897. December 5, 1897, she became a member of the Universalist church at Fincastle. Having lived in Morton for thirty years she was
known throughout the entire community, as a woman of sterling worth, possessed of a retiring, dignified manner, extremely loving, affectionate, and devoted to her family.
One of the greatest sorrows of her life was the loss of her daughter. She was favored as comparatively few of this world are, by living always within driving distance of her eight sisters and two brothers, she being the oldest and the
first to receive her reward. On Sunday evening, January 22nd, last, she received the first call of the messenger and continued very ill until the last two months, when she
rallied and hopes were entertained for her recovery, until the final summons, Sunday, June 25th, which was answered
Saturday July 1, 1911 at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 1 day. The surviving brothers and sisters are: Rudy Burkett. Sarah Bowen. Rachal Bales, Mollie Crodian, Sophia Goslin,
Marlon Burkett. Dilcenia Skillman, Edna Obenchaln, Effie Shannon, and Oliva Gardner.
The funeral services were conducted at the home Monday. July
3rd at 10 a m Rev. Alrhart and Rev Miles officiating. Music by the Fincastle and Union Chapel church choirs. Interment at the Union Chapel cemetery.
