Charles was married to Cynthia Ann Potter, (dau. of George and Sarah (Palmer) Potter) in 1849 in Little Compton, Rhode Island. They had four daughters.
He was a carpenter and mariner by trade. He built and owned a sloop which was named the "Carrie Lida" after his two youngest daughters.
