The second of four children born to her parents, Barbara's name, "Barbara Jean" was suggested to her mother by her maternal great grandmother Hannah Rickard.

Barbara was born in Silverton, Oregon on August 31, 1940. She lived in Salem until age 11 then her family moved to Mill City where she attended High School. Her family returned to Salem in her teen years and she lived there ever since. She worked briefly at the Marion Hotel as a hostess. She met Bill in April of 1959 and they were married March 19, 1960. She spent the rest of her years being the best wife, mother, and grandmother anyone could ever ask for.

Barbara was full of love and compassion and lived her life to the fullest. She knew what was important in life, and that was her family and friends. She left a great legacy for us all, especially her grandchildren who she cherished with all of her heart. She loved to laugh, she loved to play games, she was involved in a Bunco group and bowling team. She and Bill loved to go camping and to garage sales. She was famous for her pies and cookies, and loved to crochet. Most of all, the thing that made her the happiest was spending time with her loved ones.

Barbara Jean Durig went home to be with our Lord on May 21, 2011, at the age of 70. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, and her presence could light up any room. She was our angel here on earth, and now she is our angel in Heaven.

She is survived by her husband, the love of her life for 51 years, William Durig Sr; children, William (Debbie) Durig Jr, Brenna (JT) Plummer; grandchildren (her little "chick-a-dees") Jacob Durig, Jessica Plummer, Emily Durig, Ashley Plummer and Madisyn Plummer; siblings, Rose (Doug) Hall, Robert Fleming, Gary (Kay) Fleming, Debbie (Tony) Jucutan.
