Gaylord T. "Gay" Maden, 84, of Lodge, Illinois, passed away at 1:43 p.m. on May 20, 2011, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born Dec. 30, 1926 in DeLand to Grace Evalena Hoover Maden and James Landrum Maden. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herbert Maden; two sisters, Virginia Maden and Carol McCullough and a niece, Marcia Dianne McCullough.

He married Dolores R. Fitzwater on July 13, 1949 in DeLand. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Jeffery T. (Trudy) Maden; one daughter, Jennifer G. Eades (Kenny); one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World war II and later transferred to the U.S. Air Force in Korea. In 2009, he flew on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. where World War II veterans were recognized.

He was a farmer for more than 61 years in Piatt County, living 53 of those years in the house that he built with his own hands. In 1962 he was presented with an award of merit by the Illinois State Fair Board as one of the Outstanding Farm Families in Piatt County.

He was a very caring and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. His laughter and joyful spirit will never be forgotten. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

His interests included golfing, fishing, trap shooting, cb's, hunting, photography, playing poker and most of all socializing.

He was a member of the DeLand Methodist Church, a former member of the board of directors of Monticello Grain Company, charter member of VFW Post 5346, Monticello, member of Lincoln Post 102 DeLand Legion for 64 years, DeLand #812 AF & AM for 60 years, Bloomington Consistory for 60 years, Ansar Shrine, member of Champaign Elks 2497, 41-year member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #20, former honorary member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Monticello, former member of the Piatt County Board of Review and former member of Piatt County Farm Bureau's Trap Shoot Team and a drainage district member for DeLand and Lodge. He was also a former member of the Monticello Golf Club. He was proud of having shot a hole-in-one at the Monticello Golf Club and at a course in Boca Raton, Florida.
