Roselyn Fatka, the daughter of Samuel and Hope (Myers) Thornton, was born July 20, 1928 on a farm near Jefferson.

She died December 19, 1999 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. She was 71 years old and had been a resident of Paton.

"Rosie" attended and graduated from Churdan High School in 1945. She worked for Dr. Eddie Baker in Jefferson before her marriage.

On December 1, 1946, Roselyn Thornton was united in marriage to Paul Fatka at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Paton. To this marriage were born five children.

After their marriage Paul and Rosie farmed and raised their family on a farm south of Paton.

Paul died in 1979, and Rosie continued to live on the family farm for a few years. She then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1986.

Rosie moved to Kansas City, MO in 1987, where she worked for the United States Department of Agriculture.

In 1995 she retired and moved back to the family farm. In 1997 she moved into Paton.

Roselyn was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a former member of the E.U.B. Church. She had been active in both churches and their women's groups.

Survivors include her children: Larry (Sue) of Paton; Paulette Hoyle of Morton, IL; Ardis (Steve) Higgins of Omaha, NE; Dee Ann Littleton and companion Jerry Monen of Boone; and David (Angela) of Paton; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers: Leo Thornton of Churdan, Kenneth Thornton of North Carolina, and Marvin Thornton of Ankeny; and one sister, Arlene Davis of Glidden.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and three brothers: Dale, Francis, and Norman Thornton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday Dec. 22, from Salem United Methodist Church in Paton.

The Rev. Leila Blackburn, pastor of the church, officiated. Tricia Lindgren, Cara Guess, and Rochelle Guess were vocal musicians, and there was also congregational singing. Rochelle Guess was organist, and Renaye Lindgren was pianist.

Casket bearers were Mrs. Fatka's grandchildren: Renage and Karen Fatka; Michael, Shawn and Carrie Hoyle; Christopher, Patrick and Kimberly Higgins; Heidi Bryant; Lucas and Callie Fatka.

Interment was in Paton Township Cemetery at Paton.

Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
