William H. Ahlers was born in 1876. After he received his common education, he began to devote his time and energy to the manufacturing and sales of furs. The business was located in downtown Dayton and by 1904, Mr. Ahlers specialized in top of the line furs, especially those made from seal skins. The Polar Bear advertisement sign that was located above Mr. Ahler's display case quickly caught the eye of prospective buyer and William proudly made it known that his current line of fur garments were made from full skins. He also had a complete cold storage plant for furs, fine woolens, silk, etc. In his employ were his brother Robert H. and 5 to 10 expert fur workers as the season demanded.
