Dorette Cordes, 86, formerly of the State Center area, died Friday, April 2, at the Des Moines General Hospital. Services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at the Wensel Perrin Funeral Home. The Rev Dr Glen Jaspers officiated. Burial followed in Hillside Cemetery.

She was born August 24, 1906 in Hallock, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Betsie Johnson Carlson. She grew up in Minnesota. She married Alfred J Cordes June 8, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and they lived Eldora until 1956, when they moved to Marshalltown. She was a pastry chef at the Tallcorn Hotel when it was owned by J W Fisher.

In 1971 they moved to Rhodes and in 1978 to State Center where she lived until 1990 when she moved to Des Moines.

She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge in Iowa Falls.

Survivors include a son, Darrell Cordes, Fort Morgan, Colorado; three daughters, Colleen (Mrs Adolph) Morse, Bentonville, Arkansas, Beverly (Mrs James) Harms, Decorah and Evelyn (Mrs Rudy) Alcorta, Clive; eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.
