Phillip Wayne Goertz, 77, loving husband and father, joined the Good Lord on May 13, 2011, after a long struggle with many medical challenges.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marty; his children, Jeffrey, Ronald and his wife, Carrie, their children, John and Jennifer, Steven and his wife Deanna, and their children, Brandi, Lindsay, Kelsey, Danielle, Cali and Anna, and due in August, great-grandson Joey; and Trudy.

Phil was born on October 13, 1934 in Cleveland, OH. He had a 22 ½ year career in the United States Air Force as a weather officer, retiring as a Major. He was stationed across the country as well as Thailand and Germany.

His lifelong passion, though, was the Boy Scouts of America. From being a Scout as a youth, earning Scouting's highest honor - Eagle Scout, through volunteering as an adult, being awarded the Silver Beaver, to a second career as a Professional Scouter in Seattle and Skagit and Island Districts, he has maintained a continuous membership in this great organization.

Over the past 20 years, he was an active participant in the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon, including being the Club Secretary for many years. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society , Boy Scouts of America, or the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mount Vernon. A reception will follow at St. Joseph Center.

Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
