CORNING - Richard H. Wood, 62, River Road, died Wednesday, September 29, 1993 in his son's home at 179 Chestnut Street.
Richard was born February 26, 1931 in the town of Tyrone, the son of Stanley F. and Edith Mattison Wood. He retired from Corning, Inc. General Machine Shop in January. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was past commander of American Legion Meade-Price Post #1208 in Wayne, past commander of the Schuyler County American Legion, former chief of the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department, a forty- year member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge, life member of V.F.W. Post #524; a member of the Penn Yan Moose, Watkins Glen Elks Club and a former member of Wayne Baptist Church.
Richard is survived by his mother of Bath, son & daughter-in-law; Harvey & Peg Wood of Corning, four brothers; Lauren of Corning, Jack of Bath, Raymond of Wayne, and Roger of Addison, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Shirley and Norval Armstrong of Scottsdale, AZ and Betty and Richard Berl of Hammondsport, several nieces and nephews. His wife Shirley Fillingham Wood, died in 1974 and sister; June Depew, died previously.
There are no calling hours. The Schuyler County American Legion will hold a memorial service at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning at 2:00 P.M. Sunday. The funeral service will immediately follow officiated by Rev. Theodore R. Richards. Burial will be in Wayne Village Cemetery, Wayne, NY.
