John was a farmer by trade. He was called "Granny" Bratton by his grandchildren. John became a naturalized citizen 29 Oct 1852.
John was affiliated with the Primitive Methodist Church in Aug 1840 in England. His children followed in this faith and carried it to America.
Granny's headstone verse is: Precious in the sight of the Lord
Per the 1841 census John was living in Glandford Brigg Winterton (should be Winteringham)
Most of John's children remained in England. Exception being Joseph 1826 and Hannah 1818
