Joseph A. Detwiler

Joseph A. Detwiler, 76 years old, died last night at 11 o'clock at his home, in New Paris, after a years illness of complications. He was born in Martinsburg, PA., June 21, 1852 and he came to Elkhart county with his parents at the age of two years and had lived here his entire life. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and five sons, Mrs. Phoebe Swoveland of Goshen, Mrs. G.S. Boyer of Bristol, and Mrs. E.W. Christophel of New Paris, John Detwiler of South Bend, M.W. Detwiler of Wakarusa, Charles Detwiler of Elkhart, S.H. Detwiler and H.D. Detwiler, both of Bristol; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Susanna Swoveland and Mrs. Jesse Singer, both of Foraker. Enos Detwiler of near Goshen and and John Detwiler of Kemtater, Wisconsin. 38 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afteroon, meeting at the home at 1:00 and at Yellow Creek Church at 2:00. the Rev. A.B. Yoder of Elkhart will officiate and burial will be made at the Yellow Creek Cemetery. It is requested that no flowers be sent.
