Last Sunday Mr. Henry Burress, whose home was near Montpelier, died after a few days siege with pneumonia. Mr. Burress was near 80 years old and served through the civil war. His son Henry lives at Campbellsville. (The Adair County News, Wednesday, March 20, 1901, pg 3)

Henry S. Burris/Burriss/Burress Born between 1816-1823 Died of pnemonia. Montpelier diamond found on Henry's land in 1888, on display at the Smithsonian for years. In 1870, Henry was a shoemaker, he was also a farmer. Served in the Mexican War and the Civil War. Could not write his name, "made his mark-X". Disabled by Rheumatism contracted in Somerset KY. October 13, 1864, Discharged with Company at Louisville KY. August 16, 1861...enrolled at Camp Dick Robinson KY, Private Company G, 3rd Ky Infantry Volunteers. October 08, 1861, Mustered in for 3 years or duration of war. June 20, 1864, Absent, wounded, left arm, Kenesaw Mountain. October 13, 1864, Mustered out. (Info from Justin Burris)
