James G. McMillan was born the 3rd child of 12 born to William Johnson and Martha Jane McMillan. His parents and 10 siblings packed up and left Ohio in 1872 to pioneer the west. They settled in Stafford County, Kansas. He and his oldest brother stayed in Ohio. James married at 34 years of age and had two children. The 1900 census states he was a carpenter. He and his wife and children lived their entire lives in Ohio. He lived to be 58 years old and is buried in Ohio near his wife.
