BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Oscar F. Poole, 87, died Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
He was a lifelong member of the Legion Memorial Methodist Church in Powell Valley, Big Stone Gap, Va. and a retired superintendent of the Big Stone Gap District of VDOT.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Worley and Venus Blanton Poole, Big Stone Gap, Va.; two sisters, Christy Wells, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Axley Hash, Norton, Va.; and two brothers, Claude and Miney Poole, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lawrencie Wells Poole; two daughters, Nema Miller and husband, Wade Miller Jr., Geanne Masters and husband, Dale Masters, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; four sisters, Nellie Gilly, Elizabeth McPherson and Parilee Poole, all of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Laura Roberts, Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Douglas Poole, Appalachia, Va., Carson Poole, Morristown and Robert Poole, Big Stone Gap, Va.; one granddaughter, Marla Bolling, Pound, Va.; one grandson, Tim Miller, Knoxville; one great-granddaughter, Amber Miller; three great-grandsons, Justin Miller and Jaret and Erik Bolling; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Knight and the Rev. Rick Spell officiating.
Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Vernon Gilly, Ballard Hash Jr., Charles Upchurch, Michael Graham, Mark Graham and great-nephew, Brandon Poole.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Roberts, D.J. Egan, Virgil Blevins, Harold Rivers, Marvin Miller and Benny Wampler.
