Son of Phineas Rice and Elizabeth (Willard) Rice (1687/8-1761). They were married on Oct 2,1707.

He married, first, Sarah Bosworth. She may have been born on Mar 20,1709/10, a daughter of John Bosworth Jr and Elizabeth Chamberlain Bosworth. However, the Bosworth Genealogy, on p.336, offers the following theory: Three of the children of John and Elizabeth Bosworth were baptized in Bristol by the Rev.John Sparhawk: Elizabeth, bapt. July 8,1711; Henry. Dec 6,1713, and Sarah, Sept 16,1716. It is the opinion of the compiler that the Sarah, born in
Hull, died, and another daughter born a short time previous to the death of the mother was baptized while'an infant. It does not seem probable that the Sarah born in Hull in 1710 would have been left unbaptized until the age of six years when other children had been baptized in the meantime.

He married , second, on Jul 16,1739, Hannah Leland.

Children(by first marriage): Phineas Rice.

Children(by second marriage): Elizabeth Rice Pulsifer, Israel Rice, Sarah Rice Prentice, Hannah Rice, Timothy Rice, Daniel Rice, Caleb Rice, Hannah Rice Brown, Mary Rice Goodale, and Daniel Rice.
