World War II Army veteran and Spencer resident Donald L. Baxter passed away Wednesday, September 2 at his home. He was 75. Funeral services were held Friday, September 4 at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel. Dave Freeman officiated and burial was at the Methodist Cemetery in Ellettsville. Graveside military services were conducted by the Honor Guard. The son of Horace N. and Martha (Martin) Baxter, he was born August 1, 1923 in Monroe County. He was a farmer and attended the Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Opal Louise (Stephens) Baxter of Spencer; three daughters, Shirley Winders of Parrish, Florida, Sherry Mobley and Shanta Baxter both of Spencer; three sons, Rockie, Randie and Roger Baxter all of Spencer, one sister, Ruth McClung of Unionville; one brother, Ray Baxter of Bloomington; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Baxter.
