JOPLIN, MO — Aquilla A. Newkirk, age 75, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Saturday May 14, 2011, at St. John's Hospital, following an illness. Aquilla was born on Jan. 29, 1936, in Elk City, Kan., the daughter of the late Leonard and Edna Mae (McCarty) Foster. She has been a resident of Joplin for the past 46 years, moving here from Hutchison, Kan. She was a beautician working for the A La Mode Styling Salon. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She married Donald Gene Newkirk on June 22, 1952, in Elk City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1988. She is survived by one son, Jimmy Newkirk and wife Terilyn, Webb City, Mo.; four daughters, Lisa Ingle and husband Mike, Joplin, Katherine Newkirk, Joplin, Charlotte Goddard and husband William, Duenweg, Mo., and LaShelle Dishman and husband Randall, Portland, Texas; two brothers, Gary Foster and wife Marilyn, Dewey, Okla., and Frank Foster, and wife Jodi, Independence, Kan.; one sister, Betty Redman and husband Gary, Independence; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Dan Newkirk, and one brother, William Foster. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor William Pape will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to Gods Fruit Ministries in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard & Crematory.
