James W. Austin, age 70 of Otterbein, died at Heritage Healthcare on Wednesday, April 09, 2008. Born in Chalmers, IN on December 25, 1937, he was the son of the late Delbert and Florence Harris Austin. He had resided in Otterbein for over 20 years. He married Jackie Fields on March 12, 1984 in Tazwell, TN. and she survives. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp after serving 21 years. He was a member and past commander of the VFW #1154, 33-18 in Attica, former member of the Otterbein Legion and Lafayette Legion, Post #492, AMVETS, D.A.V. and 40 & 8.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Jimmy Austin of Indianapolis and John Austin of Grand Rapids, MI, a daughter, Tammy Mills of Grand Rapids, MI, three step-daughters, Patricia Rowland of Lafayette, Cathy Fisher (husband, Gene) of Lafayette, and Jackie Watson (husband, Troy) of Sterns, Kentucky, a sister, Marlene Bauer (husband, Bradon) and a brother, Neal Austin (wife, Donna) of Monticello. Visitation one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Celebrant Carla Ellis officiating. Eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. Preceded in death by a son, Jerry Sexton, a brother, Glenn Austin, and a granddaughter, Cassandra Watson. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
