Jacob was the son of Henry and Christinia (SHAUL) Eckler. He was captured by the indians and held for 7 years. The indians treated him well but did notch his ear. He married Christine Fetterly on 16 Jul 1796. He and his family moved to Mendon in about 1810 and later to Pittsford and on to Herkimer Co then about 1850 to Penfield. They had nine children. Stated by A. Ross Eckler in his family genealogy and listed in Oakwood cemetery records.
