[The Examiner, 5 Feb 1879] Sudden Death - We regret to chronicle the death of Mrs. Ann Bragonier, relict of the late Jacob Bragonier, Esq., which occurred at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Charles E. Knauff, (one of the editors of the Examiner) on Tuesday, the 4th inst., at 4 o'clock a. m. The worthy deceased was in the 75th year of her age, and although bearing the infirmities which are usually entailed upon such ripened years, her death at this time was sudden and unexpected. Mrs. B. was an estimable Christian lady and possessed of all those evidences of true womanhood which characterized and adorn the spiritually-minded and the righteous. She was a faithful member of the Reformed Church of this place, and died in the certitude of that Christian belief which she had professed and that constantly manifested itself in her continual daily walk and conversation. Her funeral will take place at 3 o'clock this (Wednesday) afternoon from the residence of Mr. C. E. Knauff, West Third street.

[The Examiner, 12 Feb 1879] Deaths.**** IN MEMORIAM.
Departed this life, on Tuesday, the 4th instant, Mrs. ANN BRAGONIER, relict of the late Jacob Bragonier, Esq., in the 75th year of her age. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon the 5th instant, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Charles E. Knauff, whence her remains were borne to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, and interred under the officiating ceremonies of the Rev. Dr. E. R. Eschbach.
Deceased was a most estimable lady. In the bosom of that household which she loved to call HOME, and which was blessed by her venerable years and the ripened adornments of her Christian character, as well as among those whose relations were not of the same intimate nature, her virtues were recognized and avouched.
Of gentle, benevolent heart, deeds of kindness and charity were ever present in the outward expressions of her being. Of purity of soul, her spiritual life constantly rose higher and higher toward the zenith of earthly piety, which while illuming her own character, shed its refracted light upon those with whom social contact was continuously present. Having consecrated herself in earlier years, to the Lord, in the communion of the Reformed Church, her unfaltering trust and living faith always centered in her Redeemer: thus exemplifying in the various phases of this mortal sphere the regenerating graces of the higher life. Although declining days had thrown their shadows aslant her pathway and enervated bodily powers more or less indicated the waning functions of the physical frame, her industrious creative talents were stimulated by a controlling will and an animating spirit to a very late period of her natural life.
Mrs. B.'s decease was as peaceful as the evening twilight of her mortal day. As the wearied pilgrim sinks gratefully into the arms of gentle slumber, stealing o'er his senses like some resistless benediction, so she "lay down to pleasant dreams" in "the earthly house of this tabernacle," while her spirit winged its flight to the blissful realms of eternity. Death, although coming none too soon, under Divine Providence, to summon her waiting soul to the "rest that remaineth for the people of God," fell with sudden and keen sorrow upon those whom kindred ties and affections had so closely bound to her love. While the links of reciprocal union are now sundered, so far as mortality is concerned, an eloquent lesson is taught those remaining to imitate in a practical manner all the virtues of the deceased; so living, withal, that when "the silver cord be loosed" all the earthly loves that cemented kindred and friends here below may prove but dim types of that heavenly communion which is the vital element of the beatified abode of the saints.
