Vera passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Vera Louise (Snethen) Liermann was born on September 13, 1920 in Pleasanton, IA to Albert and Grace Eugena (Dant) Snethen. Vera was the oldest of identical twins. She married Willard F. Liermann on January 19, 1944 in Mt. Ayr, IA, residing in Mt. Ayr until they moved to the Liermann family farm three miles south of Beemer in 1949.

Prior to working outside the home while her children were young she was active in the Methodist Church in Beemer, 4-H and Girl Scouts as a leader and the American Legion Auxiliary. During World War II she worked at the Glen L. Martin Bomber plant in Omaha, NE. She joined the work force as a bartender and grill cook at various bars throughout West Point, Beemer and Wisner. She also was employed at Campbell's Soup Company in Fremont, her friend Evaline's restaurant and IBP Cafeteria in West Point.

Having quit school due to family obligations she received her high school diploma through the GED program at 62 years of age.

She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.

Prior to suffering at stroke in 1995, she enjoyed being on a bowling team, a shuffleboard team and painting ceramics. She enjoyed nature and the out-of-doors and liked to garden, raising and preserving vegetables and raising chickens. Always an animal lover she enjoyed having dogs and cats in her home.

Her stroke, major hearing loss and loss of vision due to macular degeneration made socializing difficult in later years. After entering the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in June of 2010, she found friendship with the other residents and staff that made her final year enjoyable.

She is survived by her son Charles and a daughter Peggy both of Beemer.
