He was born in Brunswick, Germany. By 1854, He and his brother, Charles Telgmann, were living in Comfort, Texas and in 1861 they each bought land in Kerr County. He was a farmer and was 32 years old when he died. In 1860 he and Charles are living in the same home as Albert Bruns in Comfort, Texas

He received a body wound in the Nueces River Battle, but continued to fight to the best of his ability. He died from his wound.
