Funeral services for Claude M. Allen, 101, of Neligh will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Febr. 16, at the United Methodist Church in Neligh. Rev. Martha Voigt will officiate. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #172, and VFW Post #5287.
Claude M. Allen, son of Seth and Sarah (Bellar) Allen was born March 11, 1894 at Neligh. He attended rural school in Antelope County. Mr. Allen was the first man from Antelope County drafted for service in World War 1. He served in France with the army. Mr. Allen was the last WW1 survivor in Antelope County.
On January 27, 1921 he married Laura Nagel at Stanton. They farmed northeast of Neligh until 15 years ago when they moved into Neligh. He was a member of American Legion Post #172.
Mr. Allen died Sunday, Febr. 11, at the Neligh Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters, and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife of Neligh; two sons and their wives, Melvin and Helen Allen of Omaha, and Paul and Joan Allen of Enid, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Frances) Best of Lincoln and Mrs. Terry (Charlotte) Henline of Port Huron, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
